WIMBLEDON VILLAGE FAIR, SKETCH FROM LAST SATURDAY 21 JUNE

WIMBLEDON VILLAGE FAIR 1, JUNE 2014

The annual Wimbledon Village Fair was bursting at the seams (if that is possible on Wimbledon Common).  The sunny weather helped. There were crowds everywhere I walked, so I bought a half of ale from the Tillingbourne Brewery Ale stand to drink by the pond, while I did this sketch. And very good it was – the ale I mean. You can see it in the foreground.

SMITHFIELD NOCTURNE CYCLE RACING – JUNE 11

I went to Smithfield, in the City of London, on Saturday to watch the cycle racing.  The Smithfield Nocturne is an annual event, and attracts crowds, quite of few of whom have cycled up there so bikes everywhere.  Last year I also went along and made three oil paintings from sketches and photos.  This year I did a few sketches but drawing cyclists in a race is difficult, to say the least!  The fun event which I saw during the evening was the vintage penny farthing bikes in a race.  They go surprisingly fast and so even my photos were blurred.  I have put the photos on my Flickr page.
